Inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders

From the Scottish Borders to John O’Groats, our YESC team have been delivering training to teachers about the Climate Smarter project, which takes young people on a journey of investigation and experimentation to look at how we can tackle the climate emergency.

Over the next few months, 270 classes of young people will be learning about renewable energy, water, forestry and smart technology through accessible and engaging workshops. These young people will also be working creatively in teams to demonstrate their new skills and knowledge by building an eco-school model.

Teachers left with a new confidence in STEM, high quality learning resources and of course, a fabulous box of free kit to support their teaching. Thanks to funding from Shell, 40 schools across Fife, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City will be completing YESC’s Climate Smarter project in the 2023/4 academic year.

Schools will be running their own competitions to decide which of their eco-school models to show at YESC’s Celebration of STEM events in 2024. If you would like to attend one these school competitions to judge the eco-school models and share a bit about your own STEM career, please get in touch with Eira James (eira.james@scdi.org.uk).
